Coding happens live against the footage and is scored to the standard as it's entered, so the inspection is finished when the camera comes out. Take a fifth off every job your crews run and it adds up to weeks of van time over a year.

About these figures. The 10 to 30% range comes from our own testing of the PipeInspect field workflow against the way inspections are typically recorded today. It's an indicative estimate, not a guarantee. What you actually get depends on your crews, your camera gear, the asset owner's requirements and your job mix. The calculator starts near the low end of the range, lets you set the figure yourself, and uses a crew rate that won't match any particular business. Treat the result as a rough guide for a conversation, not a quote. Nothing here forms part of a contract.

The camera doesn't stop while you fill in a form. Logging an observation is a run of keystrokes, not a hunt through menus.

One hand

Tab straight through an observation

Tab moves you field to field, through code, characterisation, quantification, clock and remark, and Enter commits it. The whole defect goes in with one hand while the other stays on the joystick.

Distance

The chainage is already filled in

Meterage and inclination come off the reel as you go, so an observation lands at the distance it happened. Override it by hand when the counter drifts.

Find the code by describing the defect

Type what you'd call it. The WSA code is what gets stored and exported, and the description is what the operator reads.

Symbols

Read the whole run at a glance

Every WSA code family has its own glyph on the spine, coloured by grade and offset left or right by clock reference. The same symbol appears on the section report, so what you saw in the van is what the client sees.

Field capture is saved locally first and uploads behind you when signal comes back. A flat battery in a paddock doesn't cost you the run.

The client clicks an observation and sees the footage

Desktop first, because that's where the work happens. The Windows app runs the capture, the recording and the coding, on the laptop in the van. Cloud access for the office comes with it at no extra cost, so the moment an inspection syncs it's reviewable back at the desk.

Written to the Australian code, not translated into it.

WSA 05:2025 v4.2, the Conduit Inspection Reporting Code of Australia, 4th Edition, is the specification PipeInspect was built against, including Appendix A, which sets out what inspection software has to do.

The full op-code library, structural and service scoring, condition grading, clock positions and continuous defects are all implemented to the current version. Every inspection records the version of the standard it was scored under, so a grade stays traceable to what produced it.

We keep a clause-by-clause record of where the build sits against the software specification. Asset owners and tender reviewers can ask for it.

Inspections plotted across the network instead of listed section by section, so an asset owner can see condition over a whole catchment and find the runs that need attention first.

Does it work without signal?

Yes. Everything you capture is written to the laptop first and uploaded behind you — the video, the observations, the photos. You can run a full day underground with no reception and it syncs when you get back to coverage. Nothing waits on a connection to be recorded.

Which standard does it code to?

WSA 05:2025 v4.2 — the current Conduit Inspection Reporting Code of Australia, 4th Edition. The full op-code library, structural and service scoring, condition grading, clock positions and continuous defects.

It was written to the Australian code rather than adapted from an overseas one, so the codes, the scoring tables and the report language are the ones your asset owners already expect.

Can I keep using my existing camera gear?

iPEK and Mini-Cam are supported now, including meterage and inclination coming through as you log. IBAK isn't supported yet — tell us what you run and we'll tell you where it's up to.

Anything else works through a USB capture device: composite, HDMI or VGA out of the control unit into a driver-free UVC adapter, which shows up in the camera picker like a webcam.

What can I give the asset owner?

A PDF report, a WSA §2.6 CSV, WSAA XML (both directions), a SQLite .db3, or an Excel workbook. You can also send a read-only link that opens the report and its footage in a browser, with no account needed at the other end.

Can I bring across what we've already got?

Yes — WinCan projects import, and so does WSAA XML. We do this with you as part of setting your company up, so the first job out the door is clean rather than half-migrated.

Does the office need a separate licence?

Cloud access for the office is included. The field seat is the licence that carries the capture; office users review, code and report from the browser at no extra cost.

How do we get started?
